Your first assignment is a sketching activity to begin thinking about how information — particularly numerical information — is represented visually.
Take about 15-30 minutes to sketch by hand a visualization of information from the course syllabus. Don’t worry about your chart knowledge or drawing ability! This is just a starting point for Day 1.
- It’s recommended that you visualize how the points add up for the different types of assignments (daily assignments, discussions and quizzes), but you can choose a different aspect of the syllabus if you’d like.
- Draw a sketch — it doesn’t need to be perfect or elaborate by any means, but it should be clear what you’re showing with some attempt at accuracy. If you are making a pie chart, for example, a slice representing 15 should be substantially smaller than a slice representing 80. You may want to try several approaches before choosing one.
- Scan or take a photo of your sketch to submit to Canvas.
- Write 1-2 sentences explaining what you created and why. There are no wrong answers today!
Complete the assignment by submitting the following materials to the corresponding assignment dropbox in Canvas:
- A photo or scan of your sketch
- Short written explanation
