This assignment is about making photography part of your daily routine and using individual moments to represent the passage of time. You will take photos for five consecutive days and choose one photo from each day. Like most photo assignments in this class, this assignment includes both a photo portion and a written portion to submit.

Points: 20
Due Date: Sunday, Aug. 30, at 11:59 p.m.
Grading: Successfully completing the requirements is worth 17 points. Work may earn an “A” for original thought and effort that demonstrates thorough engagement with the activity.
Submit: Five image files (.jpg or .png), text document

Using any camera, take 5 photos for 5 consecutive days. (This means you’ll need to start by Wednesday at the latest to meet the assignment deadline.) You will ultimately select one photo per day for your submission, but you will need to take far more than five photos total so you can choose your best.

Your photos should be connected in some way. Some possible themes/connections:

  • Take a photo of the same place, object or activity each day to show slight changes
  • Set an alarm and take a photo at exactly the same time of day
  • Document the most memorable activity of each day
  • Look for interesting light or colors
  • Represent someone else’s perspective, such as a roommate or pet

The photos should be candid rather than staged. You can be in them or not. Think about the idea of documenting your daily world and how to make the photos both truthful and visually appealing.

Answer these written questions in a text document, such as Word document:

  1. What is the theme or connection for your five photos?
  2. What type of camera(s) did you use? (Any type is fine!)
  3. What patterns or changes might show up visually if you continued this project for a full year?
Submit your Work

1. Blackboard
Find the assignment dropbox on Blackboard. Start a submission, and upload the five photo files as individual attachments (.jpg or .png file format). Also attach your written response or paste the text into the written submission box.

2. Class website
Upload your one favorite image to the course website from the Post Image form. It may take a minute or so for the image to upload if it’s a large file, and then it should appear in the gallery at the bottom of this page.

Upload your image using the Post Image form.
