Preparing for a Live Newscast

Square

Murrow News 8 is a student-run newscast at WSU. The program is offered as Comjour 455 for Broadcast Production and Comjour 465 for Advanced Television News. I wanted to open the doors and shed some light on a program that is not well known outside of Murrow College. Being involved in 455 myself I understand the many levels that go into production and wanted to attempt to share a very complicated process with just 10 pictures. My goal was to show how a newscast is produced all the way from the initial distribution of the script and rundowns to the signaling of the floor director cuing the reporters that they are now live. It was quite challenging taking photos for this project as the lighting environments were changing frequently and everything was moving quickly. I chose to shoot everything manually as auto shooting quickly got confused by the unusual visual environment.
