Artistic Expressions at Hotel McCoy

Square

The murals on the walls of Hotel McCoy in downtown Pullman are the subject of my photo essay. The idea was to put together the beautiful works of art created on the bare walls of the hotel by local artists from the Palouse to showcase Pullman. I used my phone to shoot the images, and “Artistic Expressions at Hotel McCoy” is my theme. The artists designed beautiful murals with various designs to bring blank walls to life with creative illustrations.

One of the paintings was done by Jacinta Gonzalez Cerda, a Chilean immigrant who now calls the Palouse home. Cerda’s mural design is a sultry 1960s cat as well as rainbow colors and the words “Be” combined with the Spanish word “Amable,” which means “be kind.” She said she created it to fit in with the cougar community and to offer a positive message about togetherness regardless of our differences.
