I selected Roost Coffee & Market, a downtown coffee shop, as my location. I visited the shop in the morning with a Nikon D3400 camera, conveying a hectic atmosphere in Pullman as residents begin their day with a cup of coffee or a cream-cheese cinnamon roll. Roost certainly had a sense of place due to the modern decor, warm lights bathing customers in a soft glow, and the customers within the shop. The aspect of Roost that makes it unique to Pullman is the people within it. As I visited the shop one Saturday morning, lines stretched out the door and baristas quickly pumped syrup into cups. The shop was filled to the brim with people of all ages and ethnicities, and their loud chatter filled the room. Local businesses are the heart of downtown Pullman, and Roost is a gathering space for all community members.
