This assignment is about capturing action. You will photograph actions and motion happening in the environment around you. Like most photo assignments in this class, this assignment includes both a photo portion and a written portion to submit.
Points: 20
Due Date: Sunday, Sept. 13, at 11:59 p.m.
Grading: Successfully completing the requirements is worth 17 points. Work may earn an “A” for original thought and effort that demonstrates thorough engagement with the activity.
Submit: Seven image files (.jpg or .png), text document
Using any camera, take photos of seven actions. You will ultimately select seven photos to submit, but you will need to take many photos of each action so you can choose your best.
- Each photo should represent a different verb. Some possibilities are: run, roll, fly, scatter, spin, twist, watch, wash, chew, dance, bend, sway, flop, stretch, share, etc.
- At least three of the seven photos must include a person or living creature
- Look for opportunities to use light and compositions techniques
Important: You must act a passive observer for this activity. You cannot create or influence the action for the sake of taking a photograph. If you are around people you know, you cannot give them instructions or ask them to perform an action. You must only photograph actions and motions that would be happening anyway. For example, if you are doing laundry and notice that the dryer creates motion, you could photograph that. But you should not pretend to do laundry just to take a photo.
Answer these written questions in a text document, such as Word document:
- Write a 1-sentence caption describing each of the seven photos.
- How did you decide which motion/action to photograph?
- What challenges did you encounter with photographing moving things?
To make it easier to submit, you can embed your photos into your text document for this assignment instead of including them as separate attachments.
