Athletic Medicine

Photos and Writing by Samuel Brixey

My photo essay is about the Athletic Trainers and their training room. Not many people pay attention to what happens behind the scenes of sports. These trainers spend their days making sure others are healthy. Not only do they lend a helping hand, but they lend their entire days and weekends to maintaining WSU athletes.

Athletic Trainers are hard workers. They have to deal with the good and the ugly. Personally, I wouldnt be healthy today without them. I have suffered some serious injuries that have led me to work with the kind trainers for months. Without them, a lot of athletes owuld not have the success they do today.

This is the shining cougar logo that is for all to see while walking into the training room. Go Cougs!

This is the mobility machine. Many athletes with back or shoulder problems rehab with this.

This area of the training room is mainly used for stretching and rolling. Trainers always start with this procedure when rehabbing.

The famous scale. Where athletes come to have their heart uplifted, or broken. Many have come and weighed, many have become sad.

These tables are where the action begins! Trainers spend hours upon hours a day around these tables. Athletes of all shapes and sizes rehab here with the help of our nice trainers.

This is Travis. He is the athletic trainer for Baseball. Travis has also helped out with Track and Field and Cheer. Here you can see Travis hard at work scheduling doctor appointments and meetings.
