Tacoma Huamne Society

My photo essay from the Tacoma Humane Society.

I chose to do my photo essay on my local humane society. I chose this topic because of the work that the group does for the animals in my community. I chose to focus on the dogs, as they were easier to get pictures of. The cats were behind wired bars which made it harder to get clear pictures of. I chose to take pictures of the animals and not the workers, because they are the ones effected. I chose to do the whole project, so the humane society, the helpers, could get recognition they deserved. I just felt like the animals should be the main focus of my photos.

Nabu-A one and half year-old pit bull terrier mix.

Queen-A 9 year-old pit bull terrier mix, who is a couch potato.

Bosworth-A one and a half year-old Siberian Husky and St Bernard. His booming barl filled up the humane society.

A six-year-old Labrador retriever mix.

A three-year old pitbull terrier mix.

A one-year-old pit bull terrier bull mix who is full of energy.

A energetic 2-year-old German Shepard and Catahoula Leopard hound mix, who bounced off the walls.

Workers and volunteers would interact with the dogs, taking them walks and playing with them.

There were another door that led to more dogs, but the door was locked and people were not allowed back their at the time.

This was one of the few small dogs at the humane society, with the majoirtity of dogs being larger dogs, with pit bull being the most common breed.
