More Than Four New Walls

Photos and Writing by Taylor Codomo

Moving is hard. Moving across the country is harder. Doing that in 5 weeks is even harder and being a college student who has to help her family move while also completing finals is by far the hardest. My parents have been looking at houses in Nevada for quite some time and when I called them one snowy day in Pullman a couple weeks ago, they said they had taken the jump and put an offer on a house. Since then, life for my family has been moving at 100 miles an hour. We packed up every last thing from our house in Issaquah, Washington and took off through 5 states, making our way to Nevada. We’ve hit every bump along the way and hit them hard, but we’re making the best out of a stressful situation and we’re glad to be able to call these four new walls home.

Keys for the 3 cars we drove to Nevada.

Giving the new house personal touches.

Continuing to live out of boxes.

My exhausted parents who didn’t like me waking them up at 6 am.

What we’ve been living out of for the past 3 days.

How a house becomes a home.

My sleeping arrangements.

$800 on gas.

To put a cherry on top, there’s no hot water.

But it’s all worth it in the end.
