Nature; More Than Meets the Eye
Photos and Writing by Ricky Hester
Nature is something in life that is not very appreciated. I decided to put together this photo essay to show the beauty that lies on campus. We can all see the trees and snow when there is snow fall, but there is a greenhouse on campus that many people do not know about. This greenhouse is located on top of the Abelson building. The greenhouse features many different kinds of exotic plants and even fruit trees. All a person has to do is travel seven floors up to see this beautiful place. The nature a person sees there is more than meets the eye. With the photos I have collected you will get to see the various flowers and plants inside.
So with this photo essay, I hope that you get to enjoy the beauty I seen there. The photos portrayed here are just a mere sample of what can be seen there. The room is well lit and when you first walk in it looks as if there is just a mess of plants. However, when you look deeper into it, these are the types of plants that you will see.
This is the first view of the tropical greenhouse on top of Abelson. Interesting sights of plants awaits in the jungle. "On earth there is no heaven, but there are pieces of it." ~Jules Renard
This flower looks so much like a bug. This flower is definitely odd, it looks like it could jump right off of the stem
"Just living is not enough... one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower." ~Hans Christian Anderson
This white flower looks very interesting with that yellow spot in the middle. The yellow stands out with how white the flower is.
Who would have thought a pineapple could grow in the Pacific Northwest. Well they can inside of a greenhouse.
Just like the pineapple, a cactus cannot thrive in the Pacific Northwest. It is cool to see a bit of the Southwest here.
You can't have nature without animals. This huge goldfish was found towards the back of the greenhouse with several other fish. Using their waste as nutrients for the plants.
This flower consists of a pretty blue base and features a pink accent to the back part of the stem.
This set of pink flowers were under special care in a different room at the back of the greenhouse.
This yellow flower almost seemingly resembles a demorgorgon from Stranger Things. Could this be the start of something dangerous?
