The Inception of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art | WSU

Photos and Writing by Peter Adams

I decided to document the final days of the current Museum of Art here at WSU. as many know, A new art museum is on the cusp of opening its doors. This new museum was design to house and honor the university's collection of approximately 3,500 works of art. The current museum will return to its original purpose: a teaching gallery where students and faculty can work together to learn and create.

This project was funded heavily in part by a generous $5 million donation, given to the university by Jordan Schnitzer, a Portland philanthorpist and art collector. It’s all thanks to the hard work of the faculty and student interns of the current museum, that this transition is possible. I photographed their hard work packing up the final exhibit, Contemporary Women Printmakers, the closing ceremony for the current gallery, and the construction of the new building.
