The Political Climate at WSU via Posters on Campus.

Photos and Writing by Natassja Haynes

November 5, 2017 is when I remember seeing the first It’s Okay To Be White poster on campus. The movement started on a 4Chan thread; the thread predicted the “normies would go berserk” as well proclaiming that “leftist and journalists hate white people”. The posters on the WSU campus were torn down by students. Nov. 27 brought stickers instead of posters, making the process of tearing down the message harder. The night of Friday Dec. 1, early into Saturday morning, the GOP passed a wildly unpopular tax bill. And on Saturday, the campus found itself with more political posters. This time, it was a letter addressed to the government taped up to all of the main doors on campus. The political tensions are high across America and on our campus--and these posters are just a minor indication to the complexities of political opinion on campus.

I had left the area where I was taking photos at 12:30 pm and came back to take this photo at 12:38 pm and new posters were up (Dec.1, 2017).
