A Brotherhood: Photo Essay

Photos and Writing by Mason Jordan

A fraternity is more than just a way to party, or just a way to make friends as a freshman. A fraternity is a brotherhood. This is especially true of a multi-cultural fraternity, which consists largely of minorities, though anyone of any race can join. For the “Coming Out” event, recruits who have been preparing for months to join the fraternity are finally going to be revealed tonight. The recruit’s identities must be hidden from all other fraternities and sororities for months, as the fraternities get them ready to join by having them do such things as memorize their code and values. Before though, the fraternity will hand out scholarships, and converse with the other multi-cultural fraternities/sororities.

Starting the night with rewarding scholarships

The new recruits make their way to the steps of Todd Hall

The recruits line up in front of the growing crowd

The recruits start singing and dancing to the multi-cultural sororities

The crowd watches on as the recruits perform their numbers

The recruits take off their mask and real themselves, to the joy of the audience and themselves

After the recruits reveal themselves, many of the fraternities get together to dance and converse

The recruits are bombarded with congrats and love from everyone

The dancing and partying continued throughout the night

A fraternity is a brotherhood first and foremost, for everyone involved
