Weight loss. A Journey.

Growing up overweight has never been easy for Ann. Everyday hundreds of thoughts about her weight, her body and food run through her head. I wanted to showcase a behind-the-scenes look at the daily life of a young women who is not only recovering from an eating disorder but also currently on her own weight loss journey. I wanted to showcase different parts of her life that showed a deeper look into an often underrepresented problem that thousands of women face everyday. I wanted the pictures to be candid and authentic. For me it was less about trying to have technical perfection but rather to tell a story about the emotions behind her smile.

The scale has been her enemy since she was seven.

She does about 25 crunches every night looking to gain core strength.

After a long day, she gazes into the mirror.

Her daily workout includes planking, where she goes into this position for a minute at a time.

She is wearing her favorite sports bra that reads, "Mind Body Soul". She laughs as her friend is telling a funny story.

It's "cheat day" she explained. Her weight loss journey isn't perfect but her hash browns are pretty close.

She was getting ready for formal and made sure she wore two layers of spandex under her dress.

After telling her story of being an overweight child and the struggles it still brings to her life every day, Ann teared up and looked glumly up at me.
