A Day in the Life of a Personal Trainer
Photos and Writing by Lauren LeMaster
In this photo essay I captured the life of a personal trainer, that is also a full time student. The personal trainer, Hannah, works as a certified trainer at a gym that her parents own in her hometown. She wanted to keep in practice with her certification, and make some extra money, so she continued to work and take on clients here at Washington State. She has a very busy schedule, she has to work out on her own time to stay in shape, train her clients, attend classes, and keep up with homework. Before she meets with her clients she makes a personalized workout for whoever she is training that day. In this photo essay, she is working shoulders with her client Tabitha. I am trying to show the amount of pressure that is on personal trainers to keep up with normal day to day things, as well as the pressure that is on them to have an ‘ideal body’ that will get them clients and at the same time give their clients assurance for a certain body image.

Hannah monitors her client doing dumbbell lateral raises, which works the traps and anterior deltoids.

Hannah finally has some time to relax by going on her phone after a long day of training, and homework.
