The day-in-the-life of a hard working sociable college student
Photos and Writing by Karyna Balmain
My photo-journalism essay project is an inside scoop on the-day-in-the-life of a social hardworking college student. Mahre Connor almost does it all with two jobs, a position in her sorority and an active social life. She spends every day at Washington State University working towards her goals of being a successful and involved student that graduates with no regrets. In her day to day she barely has a minute to herself as she runs around campus checking things off her list along with assisting her peers. In the photos that I was able to capture I wanted people to be able to visualize and get a chance to see what a day in Mahre’s life looks like. The stressful moments along with what she uses as her release. It is not always easy to be a person that does it all, but Mahre manages to make it look not only easy but also rewarding.
For one of Mahre's jobs she works as a cougar connector and gives tours of WSU to potential new students. Another part of her job description involves training new cougar connectors as she is doing here in the Compton Union center.

Mahre's second job is at WSU's cable 8 productions. At the beginning of every week they have a meeting in the Murrow building to discuss new projects and tasks that need to be completed.
Even with her busy schedule Mahre values her relationships that she has made within her sorority. She makes an effort to meet and get coffee or food with her little at least once a week, they have been faithful to this tradition all semester.
Mahre has maintained a position on council in Kappa Delta sorority since her freshman year and as a junior is finally passing the torch onto another member. This involves meeting with her replacer weekly until the end of the semester to train her on what it takes to be Vice President of Operations.
Every semester all of the members on council get to attend The Arete awards in the Compton Union building to receive awards. This is Mahre getting ready for the night.
Mahre has a wall in her room dedicated to sticky notes. She adds to it every day so she knows what she has to accomplish for the week.
Mahre spends most of her time studying but is very picky where she studies. After trying out various coffee shops down town she has decided that her favorite place to study is Thomas Hammer.
Mahre never has time to workout during the day due to her busy schedule, so she likes to save her workouts for nighttime. She goes on 45 minute runs Monday, Wednesday and Sunday through her neighborhood.
When she is not working hard on her schoolwork, at her job or working on sorority duties, Mahre enjoys downtime with her roommates. They crowd into their living room and watch the office for hours discussing life and debriefing.
