More than a Minority
Photos and Writing by Jennifer Power
This is Ryan Egardo. Although she may look like an average girl, she is far from ordinary. Ryan is African American, Filipino, Spaniard, Guatemalan, and Japanese. She is a first generation college student who is focused and determined to achieve her goals. Ryan is a Marketing major with a minor in Hospitality in the Carson College of Business. She is also a member of the Alpha Phi sorority. In addition, she went through the rigorous application process of becoming a Washington State University Athletic Marketing intern.
She has received derogatory comments from other WSU students, that she must have stolen the ring that represented her sorority, because there was no way she was in that particular sorority because of what she looked like. After that she realized that even though she was becoming successful, people would still doubt her. However, she is still determined to meet her goals.
