The Cable 8 Production Process

Cable 8 Productions is a student run production company and television station based out of Washington State University. Every semester, more than fifty students collaborate to write, direct, edit, produce, and distribute creative and original television programs. Cable 8 Productions prides itself in the ability to create content, connections, and community as members learn what it takes to successfully navigate the production process.
Students start with an idea. They have the option to pitch shows and special project pieces to the executive board at the end of each semester to produce the following semester. After the development stage, the teams go into pre-production where they write scripts, cast talent, and begin to see their vision come to life. Once they have their content written and staffed, they film it in the production stage. Once all of the episode is shot, they enter the post-production stage where they edit with Avid Media Composer and Adobe Creative Cloud products. After a rough cut, multiple revisions, and a final cut of the episode, they export and start the final stage of the production process: the distribution phase. Students participate on top of their school and life commitments because of the opportunities the organization offers for growth.
