I wanted to get a closer look at what a student leader does outside of their public meetings. I hoped to learn why they are a student leader, what it means to them and what they do with the other 99 percent of their time that does not get reported in the student newspaper. I chose ASWSU Vice President Garrett Kalt for this assignment because I knew his position demanded a lot of his time. I had really only seen him in ASWSU Senate meetings so I wondered what a run-of-the-mill day was for him. He sent me screenshots of his calendar to me when I told him about the assignment so I could show up where he was for pictures.

Much of his day is spent on the third floor of the CUB, where many student leadership groups have offices.
Kalt hosts a radio show with Student Regent Alyssa Norris. They speak with students, faculty and administrators about university affairs.
The internal review gives the Senate a chance to find areas for improvement.
Since being in student government, Kalt has made sexual assault prevention a priority, passing resolutions on the matter through the Senate and working with President Jordan Frost to advocate for a policy that would ban recruitment of athletes with histories of sexual violence.
