Student Comes First: A Day In The Life Of A Student Athlete

This photo essay shows a day in the life of a student-athlete at Washington State University. Grace Arnis, from Olympia, Washington is a member of the Women's rowing team. Grace is currently majring in Communication Studies, Journalism and Media Production. As a student athlete, Grace always makes sure that being a student comes first to ensure that her assignment are done well and submitted on time.

This photo essay follows a day in Grace's life showcasing her busy schedule which consists of going to practice, getting lunch, attending class, and filming an interview for a Journalism project. The inspiration for this project comes from the idea or stereotype that student-athletes are lazy or don't do their school work. This photo essay shows the busy schedule and effort that it taks to be a student-athlete.

5:45 am: Grace and Katie, a Strength and Conditioning intern discuss Wednesday morning's workout at Bohler gym.

7:45 am: Grace and Paige foam roll to enhance recovery after practice.

8:30 am: Grace recuperates with a smoothie in the Women's rowing locker room after practice.

10:45 am: Grace takes notes in her Political Science class following morning practice.

11:00 am: Grace and her friend Bethany exchange gifts and candy in celebraton of a personal best on test day at practice.

11:30 am: Grace and teammate Paige visit the Gray W, a cafeteria for student athletes located in the football complex between classes.

11:40 am: Grace quickly adds sauce to her lunch and closes her takeout box on her way to her next class.

2:00 pm: Grace sets up her camera and other equipment to film and interview for her Journalism class.

2:15 pm: Grace talks to the subject of her interview before beginning to record.

2:30 pm: Grace films an interview with another student for a project in her journalism class.
