WSU Club Tennis

Photos and Writing by Arthur Dalessandro

WSU Club Tennis practices, held in the Hollingbery Fieldhouse usually start out with members meeting on center court. The rest of practice consists of fun and exhausting drills, where balls are scattered and water is often spilled. These practices contain details often overlooked. Details that are “more than meets the eye.” This photojournalism essay explores the details, often hidden from unmediated vision in WSU Club Tennis.

Some of the details I wanted to show consisted of the club, and how unique each member of the club is. I also wanted to show the detail of movement necessary for any good tennis player. To do this, I captured photos showing individual members hitting and moving along the court, as well as the details of the courts and space where the club practices. The level of movement required in tennis was captured through a motion blur technique while I photographed the players.
