Labor of Love

For my Labor of Love project, I chose to document the passion of artist and student, Kellie Jensen. Kellie has chosen to incorporate her love for art and her sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta, into a profession of selling her artwork to members of the greek community at Washington State University. I chose to showcase her and her work in order to capture the feelings of pride and passion an artist has for their work. In the Greek commuinity, there are many events that incorporate an exchange of artwork and crafts. Kellie has decided to utlize that market and sell and donate her art. Kellie's craft fits with the Labor of Love theme because it is exactly that, it is someone working by doing what they love.

Kellie is a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority at WSU, which was her initial inspiration to start making paintings dedicated to the sorority.

Her crafts very anywhere from canvases of different sizes, wooden planks, and even water jugs for various themed events.

"I love to challenge myself and play around with different techniques and fonts," Kellie says, showing off art she had recently completed for an upcoming Alpha Gamma Delta event.

Kellie often looks to the internet to gain inspiration for her crafts.

"Pinterest is the best source of inspiration," Kellie said. She gets most of her ideas from the site.

Her favorite craft she's done recently is the themed water chugs pictured above. These she had done for herself, inspired by her favorite TV show, Rick and Morty.

A common piece that Kellie's customers of her sorority ask her to paint is the Alpha Gamma Delta slogan of, "Live with purpose." She loves to find different artistic variations of the slogan for inspiration.

Kellie is currently working on a painting wooden letters for one of her sorority sisters for an upcoming event.

It is common Panhellenic tradition for older members of a sorority to gift the wooden letters of the chapter to their new members.

Kellie says her passion for art started when she was young, always loving to play around with different colors and tools and constantly looking to attribute her creativity into everything she does.

Her favorite form of art is painting with acrylics and detailing with different sized brushes.

Kellie's art can be seen displayed amongst the homes of different greek members, as well as the Alpha Gamma Delta home and her own living room.
