Classics and Cruisers Auto Show
Photos and Writing by Monica Garcia
I decided to do my photo essay on a classic car show, “Classics and Cruisers Auto Show”. I picked this and wanted to take pictures of the interesting cars and learn how and why people had these cars. My other idea was to just take pictures of the whole event and talk about that. My idea was to then take pictures of the cars or take pictures of people that would show their love for the cars. I was able to attend this event and see some interesting cars, as well as meet some interesting people.
I picked the cars as my subject because cars are a time of history, they show a true beauty and craft of that time. The people that I met with these classic cars were much older, they had seen history play out and know the evolution of these cars. So I decided to also take photographs of them and their cars.
A 1969 Dodge Charger R/T, an older woman owns this car.
The car was restored as a passion project, the women grew up around cars and always loved them. She always wanted to own a Charger, so when she found one for sale, she said she had to buy it.
The owner, Gary, is pictured by his car, a 1950 Mercury Flagship.
The back of the car resembled a limosine. Gary had gray interior in the back, he also had drinks for those who sat in the back.
The interior of the car was a beautiful red. Gary took this car on as a passion project and spent abouta couple of years fixing the car, he loves it because its so unique.
Gary's car is special because it's believe it's the only Flagship with 190" wheel base. It's also one of the only Mercury Flagships made with eight doors in total, Flagships usually only have six.
A 1972 Oldsmobile 442, bought brand new by the current owner, the car stayed in the family. Over the years the car was abandoned. When the car owners wife gave him a choice, either sell the car or restore it, he said "wheres the check book" and took on his passion project.
When I asked the owner for a picture with his car be made sure to gently touch it.
The owner as he sits with his car. He told me that back in the 70's and 80's you would see a lot of Oldsmobiles' driven around.
A picture of their first car show. The owner told me that he would drive the car around to different car shows around the area. He would also pull a trailer.
