Labor of Love: A Day with Allen Lunde

Photos and Writing by Harald Hyllseth

Allen Lunde, a junior at Washington State University, is currently coming to the end of his one-year term as Director of Speakers and Conferences for the Cougar Leadership Team under WSU Student Involvement. This is a photo essay centered around his final event of the year focused on the topic of “Leading for Equity in Challenging Times” with a talk given by Erin Jones. Jones, former candidate for Washington State superintendent of public instruction, is an internationally respected educator and politician that Lunde brought to Pullman to give a TED-like talk meant to inspire students in the realm of leadership. Lunde’s day takes us on a trip through the highs and lows of planning a student-run event with the backing of a prominent speaker like Erin Jones. From the CUB to Holland-Terrell Mall to Todd Hall, enjoy a peak into Lunde’s busy life.

Allen Lunde shakes the hand of a passing student in encouraging them to attend his planned event set to happen later in the day.

Lunde finds himself racing across campus on a normal workday wearing these bright, boisterous Nike shoes.

Lost in his thoughts, Lunde prepares to welcome the keynote speaker of the evening’s event, Erin Jones, to his third floors offices in the Compton Union Building.

Enjoying the free pizza offered, Lunde takes a mental break outside of the auditorium housing Erin Jones’ open-talk.

Speaking with people in the audience, Lunde goes out of his way to thank many of the students and community members that attended Erin Jones’ speech.
